Bird Flu in South Australia: Confirmed Detections Rise from 14 to 81 in One Week

H5 bird flu is spreading rapidly among South Australia’s wild seabirds. In just seven days, the state’s confirmed detections increased from 14 to 81.

These figures represent individual infected wild birds—not 81 poultry farms or commercial outbreaks. As at 4 August, H5 bird flu had not been detected in poultry or other livestock, and the risk to human health remained low.

Suspect numbers rise and fall as laboratory results are confirmed, ruled out and replaced by newly submitted samples. They should not be added together across different days.
